Hexagonal Raku Ceramic Vessel - "Branching"
The “Branching” Vessel, made using the Japanese Raku technique - a stunning piece of handcrafted ceramic art that is sure to turn heads and start conversations. This unique vessel is a true statement piece, perfect for those who appreciate unusual ceramics
Handbuilt in crank clay, this vessel is made up of 18 panels plus the base, each one expertly crafted to create a stunning hexagonal shape. Some panels are decorated with a white glaze, while others are left 'naked', creating a beautiful contrast of textures and colours. The vessel is then raku fired, a traditional Japanese technique that involves removing the piece from the kiln while it's still red hot and rapidly cooling it in a combustible material, resulting in a unique and unpredictable finish.
The design explores ideas of geometry in nature and the elements, from the regularity of the hexagon, to fractal shapes found in lightening, rocky coastlines, root and river systems and our own bodies. It makes it an ideal conversation starter, whether displayed on its own or as part of a larger collection of ceramics.
Please note, due to the nature of raku firing, this vessel is not suitable for outdoor display or for use with liquids.
